Claire McCarthy of Leevale AC takes Silver in National 10k Championships

The Great Ireland 10k and 5k run was held in the Phoenix Park in Dublin last weekend and roughly 15,000 people took part. The 10k race also doubled up as the National 10k Championships with various club members contesting senior and masters medals.

In the Senior women's section, Claire McCarthy of Leevale AC in Cork won a national silver medal when she finished second in a time of 34m 47s.

In the Masters competitions, Carmel Parnell of Leevale AC took Gold in the F60 category.

Overall, the team numbers seemed to be down a bit this year. Despite the fact it was a national championship, no clubs from Cork are listed in the team results.
