Running Times magazine ceases publication

It has just been announced that Running Times, one of the most popular running related magazines in the USA is to cease publication. The monthly magazine was part of the Emmaus' Rodale Group which also publishes the most popular running magazine Runners World.

In a statement, the owners said..."We made the difficult decision that Running Times will no longer be published beyond its January/February issue. This will enable Runner's World, which already serves runners of all ages and abilities, to broaden its ambitions, connect with runners in new ways, and cover our sport more deeply as it begins its 50th year of publication."

Running Times had a circulation of 105,000 copies compared to 660,000 for Runners World. The UK version of Runners World sells 86,000 copies.

With some much content now available for free on the net via websites and Facebook, newspaper and magazine sales have been in a downward spiral for the last few years. The closure of Running Times may well be the first of several in the sector.
