Former Athletics Chief arrested for corruption...

The big story to hit the athletics world on Wednesday was the arrest of Lamine Diack, the former head of the IAAF...the international body for athletics worldwide.

Up to now, the revelations outlined in a German TV documentary have revealed the level of corruption in Russia and how failed drugs tests were being ignored. The programme implicated some officials in the IAAF but now it looks as if the corruption went all the way to the top of the organisation. Although Diack who served as president for 16 years was replaced in August by Seb Coe, it will raise serious questions about the organisation as a whole and its credibility.

French police issued the following statement......"Diack is suspected of receiving money in exchange for deferring sanctions for several Russian athletes who were found guilty of doping in 2011, ahead of the Olympic Games. They were presented to a judge on Tuesday who informed them that they had been put under a formal investigation. The investigation also continues into whether other persons were involved in suspected corruption."
