Roadrunner...The Journal of the Road Runners Club

If you go to any large newsagent, you'll notice plenty of magazines devoted to running...Irish Runner, Runners World and so on. While the Irish Runner has a good amount of information on say Irish athletics, most of the magazines have a heavy bias towards those starting off. i.e. how to train for your first 5k / half-marathon / marathon, etc. In truth, much of the information in them is readily available for free online if anyone searched for it.

The Road Runners Club is based in the UK and as far as I can estimate, they have around 800-900 members. As the name suggests, their interest is in road races with a bias towards some of the longer events. It's probably fair to say that they cover some of the smaller and more unusual events that wouldn't be featured in the commercial magazines.

John Walshe of Ballycotton Running Promotions is the representative for the club in Ireland. Membership only costs £12.50 for the year and for that they offer an insurance scheme for members as well as sending out three copies of the magazine per year.

This is the index for the Sping 2014 issue which gives a feel for what it  is about...

The article on P28 was about the race for the 75th birthday of the running legend Ron Hill and was on the blog back in September last year.

In this particular issue, a lot of it was given to an article about Run Bentley setting a new world record back in 1973 for running 161 miles in 24 hours. It's probably fair to say that a lot of the articles tend to about ultra running and most of it is UK orientated.

If you want more information and the club and the magazine including several sample articles, have a look at their website... http://www.roadrunnersclub.org.uk/index.php
