Cork City Marathon press release...Gather your team and leg it!

From the organisers of the Cork City Marathon...

Gather your team and leg it!

You’ve done the 5k with Ray, finished 8k in the dark and you’re falling down with 10k mini marathon tshirts. But have you done the Marathon? The average leg is only 8.5k! At an average distance of 5 miles each, you should be grabbing a couple of mates and doing a leg of the Cork City Marathon this summer as part of a Relay Team.

Done a leg before? Then challenge yourself to running two or even three consecutive legs this year. That’s what Race Director Jim O’Donovan was encouraging people to do at the launch of the relay element of the Marathon at City Hall today, 03rd April 2013; giving those thinking of registering 10 weeks to get themselves fit and ready.

“We are looking forward to even more people getting involved this year by challenging themselves to run a leg, or maybe even two. There is such a great buzz around Cork on race day and taking part is such an uplifting sense of achievement that for most runners, their first leg won’t be their last.” he said.

As usual, teams for the relay are made up of between 2 and 5 members and the relay leg distances are 5.2miles (8.3km), 5.5miles (8.9km), 5.8miles (9.3km), 5.2miles (8.3km) and 4.5miles (7.2km). Once a team has chosen their members and relay legs they can appoint a captain to register them online at http://www.corkcitymarathon.ie.

The Cork City Marathon 2013 kicks off on Patrick Street at 9am sharp on Bank Holiday Monday, June 3rd. It will touch the four points of Cork from North to South, East to West to include Blackpool, Blackrock, Bishopstown and The Lough.

The ‘Marathon for Everyone’, encourages individuals of all levels and abilities to get involved – from first timers to professional athletes, for charity or a sense of personal achievement. It is supported by Cork City Council which is committed to growing the event which is quickly becoming one of the major events in the Irish sporting calendar.

Entry forms and full details for the Team Relay are available online at www.corkcitymarathon.ie. For up to date information follow us on Twitter @CorkCityMarathon or like us on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/corkcitymarathon.
